When davening in Eretz Yisrael, outside of Yerushalayim, you should face Yerushalayim (for shemoneh esrei), direct your thoughts towards the Beis HaMikdash and imagine that you are standing inside the Kodeshei Kodashim!

If facing the Aron means that you are not facing Yerushalayim, nevertheless, face the Aron, i.e, the direction that everyone is facing. If possible, turn your face to in the correct direction of Yerushalayim.
