It is certainly proper to know the meaning of the words of Parshas Zachor.

Here:

Remember what Amalek did to you on the road; when you left Egypt

That he encountered you on the way (meaning that it was a sneak, surprise, attack) and he struck those of you who were weak and lagging in the rear (of the nation); and you were faint with thirst, and exhausted.

And he (Amalek) did not fear G-D.
It shall be that when HaShem your G-D gives you rest(i.e.peace) from all your enemies around you, in the Land that HaShem your G‑D is giving you as a heritage to inherit it (i.e, Eretz Yisrael), you shall obliterate the very memory of Amalek from under the heavens. You shall not forget!
