Ashrei is the most important part of pesukei d’zimrah. Chazal say that whoever recited ashrei every day with kavana, is assured of his or her place in olom haba. This is because:
- Every passuk starts with a different letter of the aleph bais, and
- This alludes to the supreme mitzvah of learning Torah, and
- It contains the all-important passuk: “possei’ach ess yadechoh…” which describes HaShem’s kindness in providing sustenance for every living creature. (It is essential to recite this passuk with special kavana).
