It is preferable to daven shacharis without a minyan after sunrise than with a minyan before sunrise. The person should make every attempt to get to a Shul at some point to hear kaddish,kedushah,keri’as haTorah and borchu.
A Shul should not be used for hespedim unless the aveil is a well-respected person ..and certainly if the hespedim are for a talmid chochom.
