L’kovod habachur haBar-Mitzvah Yitzchok Brodt:

The Aruch HaShulchan is mechadesh that the reason for saying “Baruch shem k’vod malchuso…” after the berachah on the tefillin shel rosh is because the berachah is a birkas hashevach, thanking HaShem for this amazing mitzvah which binds us—conceptually—to HaShem. The ultimate kesher is actually the passuk “Shema Yisrael HaShem Elokeinu HaShem Echad”, and thus we say “Baruch shem…” as we do after saying “Shema Yisrael…” (Aruch HaShulchan O.C. 25 : 12,13)
