If a person started saying “ya’aleh v’yavo” on a regular day:

  • If he did not yet say the phrase  “b’yom _______ hazeh”, he should stop immediately and continue with “vesechezena”.
  • If he did say that phrase, he should stop and go back to “retzei”.

Tefilla Halacha

On Shabbos, one should ideally begin shemoneh esrei immediately after go’al Yisrael, just as during the weekdays. BUT, if one realized after go’al Yisrael (on Shabbos) that the tzibbur is saying kadish (e.g, “yehei shemei rabbah…”) or kedusha (e.g, “kadosh kadosh kadosh…”) or barchu, he should respond according to the rules of interruptions during shema.
